Eric Ravilious was only 39 when he died on active service in 1942, but he had already achieved extraordinary things. His achievements as a wood engraver, designer and watercolourist are celebrated in the beautiful, moving film 'Eric Ravilious: Drawn to War'. In this accompanying talk, art historian James Russell goes behind the scenes, exploring the making of the film and looking in greater detail at some of those stunning watercolours.

James Russell is an art historian and curator who has studied the life and work of Eric Ravilious for almost 20 years. His 2015 Dulwich Picture Gallery exhibition 'Ravilious' wowed critics and public alike. Subsequently he has curated Ravilious shows at the Wiltshire Museum (2021) and The Arc, Winchester (2022). He appears in Margy Kinmonth's film 'Eric Ravilious: Drawn to War', having advised the director throughout the project.
