Event Details
As part of Wells Cathedral School's celebration for International Women's Day the school is delighted to present some of its scholars discussing topics which are important to them. With talks on Western attitudes to death, political unrest in Hong Kong and the end of our Universe, you can expect to be both challenged and entertained. We invite you to come along and discover what gets our pupils thinking!
The talks will be interspersed with music written by female composers including: the world premiere of From failing hands we throw the torch - an emotional exploration of warfare through the eyes of the soldiers on the frontline. Written for narrator, string orchestra and percussion, this four-movement work is set to four different war poems and combines the power of the spoken word and music to create a passionate and dramatic performance. There will also be an inspiring new marimba concerto written by a little known but very talented female composer, Jianzhen Chenyazi Chen.
